July: A Sizzling Month for Fun and Celebration

July is typically the warmest month of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, where it’s the second month of summer. The second half of the calendar year begins in July, so it may be an excellent time to start new projects on your dry erase painted wall. In the Northern Hemisphere, the “dog days” of summer are considered by The Farmer’s Almanac to extend from July 3 to August 11, when the season’s hottest, most sultry weather occurs.

July is the seventh month of the year in the Gregorian calendar used in most parts of the world and is the fourth of seven months that lasts for 31 days. In 44 BC, the senate of ancient Rome named July in honor of the Roman general and ruler Julius Caesar, as it was the month of his birth.

On July 4, 1776, the 13 US colonies declared their independence from Great Britain, which led to the creation of Independence Day in the United States in 1870. However, July isn’t just the month for celebrating US independence, as many other July holidays are observed around the globe. For example, July 2nd is World UFO Day, and in the US, July 3rd is National Stay out of the Sun Day, when people are urged to give their skin a much-needed break from the blistering heat. Also, at the end of the month, International Tiger Day is celebrated on July 29th to raise public awareness about the urgent need for tiger conservation.

Although the month of July may be hot and sultry, it’s an ideal time to get outdoors and have fun at the beach, on a family vacation, or in the backyard swimming pool. Just make sure not to stay in the sun too long in observance of National Stay Out of the Sun Day!

Posting the following quotes about July on your dry erase wall can provide you with some food for thought and maybe a bit of humor or inspiration to help you get through the dog days of summer and beyond.
